Genetic Engineering A Big Revolution - 2093 Words

Genetic engineering is the process of manually adding new DNA to an organism. The goal is to add one or more new traits that are not already found in that organism. Many problems have come with genetic engineering but it has made a big revolution in the world. We genetically engineer animals, food, plants, and more. Animals are one of the most popular species to be genetically engineered. One of the most famous animals to be genetically engineered is Dolly, the sheep. Dolly was one of the first mammals to be genetically engineered. Humans have tried to genetically engineer other humans over several year but all attempts have failed. Although it is said that if humans were cloned using the same method that was used on Dolly then human†¦show more content†¦Genetic engineering has been going on for over 32 years but is just recently starting to be a problem within societies and starting a commotion with citizens. In genetic engineering you can make crops healthier and better fo r you, they can contain more vitamins than their natural form or can be tastier. More than seventy percent of our foods in the store shelves are composed of genetically engineered items. Many people are scared that genetic engineering might ruin our world. There have been movies about clones turning evil and ruining the world. Some are scared that since humans haven’t been exposed to some of these chemicals they use in the foods, that some may be unknowingly allergic to the chemicals Many believe that genetic engineering is just messing with the world and the earth that we live on and it could all end deadly. Genetic engineering in other hands offers possible cures for diseases and countless, countless material improvements for our every day lives. Many have hope that genetic engineering could be the next big thing in making our world a safer and cleaner place, we have made animals and plants that are more environmentally friendly and don’t produce any type of toxic po isons or any type of substance that can harm the environment. Some genetic engineering is happening every day but most people don’t acknowledge it, for example, almost 85 percent of corn grown in the United States is genetically engineered, including whole grain
